What is Outvizor?

Outvizor is software for event creators. It will help you create, market, and produce in-person events and manage an audience. The ProblemPeople are spending more time alone than ever before.Loneliness has become an epidemic in America. And the damaging effects of loneliness are real, on par with smoking cigarettes daily.

There’s several possible reasons for the increase in loneliness. But a major reason has to be that going out and socializing just isn’t as appealing as staying at home and indulging in digital content like social media, streaming shows, gaming etc…Going out costs more than staying in — it requires more effort, more skill, more courage, more money, and it comes with more potential downside. And so it’s easy to see why when given the option, people would prefer to stay in and stream Netflix while intermittently checking Instagram. The problem is that the more we consume digital content, the better it gets since more talent and capital flows towards it. And the better it gets, the more we consume. Soon enough, our minds are occupied with our social media feeds, streaming shows, and podcasts.Basically, staying in has gotten way cheaper and better in the past 20 years, and going out has remained roughly the same.So how can we even the scales a bit?The OpportunityTraditional ‘social’ establishments; bars, restaurants, cafés, etc.. already help us connect with people we know. But with just a little bit of technology, and coordination, these places are perfect to create social experiences that help us bridge more and better connections.Food, drink, and well-designed spaces are the building blocks of connecting with others. With the right context and nudges from an event creator, perhaps we could have an even better experience, which could lead to new friendships, better relationships, or just a better sense of feeling connected to others. And binge watching a series at home might just take a back seat to an experience like that.WTF is an event creator?I should probably explain what I mean by the term ‘event creator’.We’ve seen the term ‘creator’ pop up within the last few years. A creator is generally anyone who creates original content online, whether it be through a YouTube channel, a newsletter, or something else. Creators generally start out doing everything themselves, from research and idea generation to script writing. Creators may eventually build a team if their audience grows a lot.In the same spirit, event creators are creating in-person events. They might be coming up with the event concept, marketing it, finding a venue, and hosting it. Just like content creators, event creators may target a specific niche or audience, and cater their events to them. Essentially, event creators are helping people connect in real life, at a time when loneliness and screen time is at an all time high.

Currently, there doesn’t seem to be software specifically for event creators (while plenty of tools for content creators exist).Event planning software exists, but that’s a different role entirely. Event planners are people who are hired to plan a specific event like a wedding, birthday, anniversary, etc… They act as an operations manager, coordinating all the contractors and vendors needed to pull off a successful event.Event creators on the other hand, are applying their creativity to conceive of an event that will get people excited to get out of the house and leave them feeling happy that they did afterwards.Event planners are primarily solving a logistics problem, whereas event creators are solving a different problem altogether — how to create an engaging experience that will also help people feel more connected. The StrategyFirst, Outvizor will start off as a free tool that lets you create custom sequences for your event or gathering. From there, it will expand to getting feedback for events.Eventually, Outvizor will help provide all the software that event creators need to run their business, so that they can do it all from one place.Like other SaaS businesses, there will be a freemium business model, with a premium plan that offers a more white label solution (with minimal Outvizor branding).Outvizor will eventually expand to be a curated community event platform.Platforms like MeetUp and EventBrite are generally crowded with too many events. And when faced with too many events, people often tend to not make a decision and/or regret the decision they made (the paradox of choice). So curation and filtering is essential (perhaps 20 events per week).Outvizor will keep a pulse on quality events by subscribing to highly rated bars, restaurants, hotels, and other establishments and promoting their events to users when something interesting surfaces. Our system will rank and score these events, as well as events created by Outvizor users (which will be featured more prominently).Since our system will have data on events at these establishments, event creators will have the perfect opportunity to pitch their services on days where there isn’t much going on.Platforms like MeetUp and EventBrite are generally crowded with too many events. Going out just isn’t worth it. People are rude or fake these days. I don’t want to have to yell to have a conversation. I’d rather drink less or no alcohol. I’m not going to learn anything or meet anyone interesting. These are all problems that event creators can help solve. For example, in the same way that Planet Fitness created a “judgement free zone”, an event creator could set the ground rules for not judging other people, and have that explained and opted-into before an event begins.Or if an event creator’s audience prefers less alcohol, they could partner with vendors that offer quality, alcohol-free beverages.ConclusionWhile it’s great that therapy has taken off and become more socially acceptable (from someone who has seen one too many BetterHelp ads) it doesn’t always get down to the root of the issue. Our in-person relationships are suffering, and people need readily available ways to improve them and take action.Yes, there are a lot of ways to connect with other people. Pick up a hobby like pickleball or photography. Go to a bar and chat with people. But you don’t always make connections with other people when you do these things, because no one there is ultimately responsible for fostering connections.Event creators are performing a crucial role in our increasingly lonely societies. They are giving us something worth getting out of the house for and helping us genuinely connect with other people. With the right software and tools at their disposal, and a dialed in audience, they can create better experiences and help us all connect more in-person.Outvizor hopes to empower event creators to do just that.
